FOCUS: Regional market Selective begins offering monoline workers comp to small employers, typically with no more than 100 employees and fewer than five locations. Previously, Selective would only serve workers comp needs of small firms in support of the carrier’s commercial multi-peril packages. Selective favors low-hazard classes with workers comp premiums of less than $10,000. Examples of preferred classes are optometrists, lawyers, clothing stores, barber shops and shoe stores. Underwriters favor classes carrying the lowest hazard grades of the National Council on Compensation Insurance. These are employers with an office building or similar type of structure and who tailor work environments that emphasize sound workplace safety practices, says Jackie White, assistant vice president of small business.
UNDERWRITING: Selective provides monoline statutory workers comp coverage with employers liability limits of either $100,000 or $500,000.
TARGET: Low-hazard workers comp risks for small businesses with payrolls of no more than $1.5 million
COVERAGE TERRITORY: CT, DC, DE, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NY, PA, RI, SC, TN, VA and WI
