It welcomes more individual risks, including hard-to-place accounts and book rollovers, says JSL Aviation President Doug Johnson. He cites his company’s ease of doing business for independent agents. “We can find a market for your business, even if you have only one account and don’t have a lot of experience in this tough specialty,” he adds. Johnson describes his firm as a resource or consultant for independent agents who want information on how to structure a placement and identify necessary coverages and exposures.

UNDERWRITING: JSL Aviation arranges both aircraft hull and liability, GL, aviation property and aviation workers comp. It also does all types of aviation manufacturers products liability, including aircraft and parts. It’s all written monoline as rule of thumb. However, a producer serving fixed-base operators may arrange both the GL for slip-and-fall exposures on a tarmac and a hull and liability policy, if they own and charter out their aircraft. Generally speaking, underwriters favor corporate aircraft accounts that typically have hull limits of less than $65 million, usually without deductibles. Corporate aircraft coverage also includes guest voluntary settlement with limits up to $500,000, nonowned liability and physical damage for those who charter aircraft and helicopters, and a broad range of ancillary coverages, such as trip interruption protection. JSL Aviation can arrange coverage for airports and government entity aircraft. The independent specialty agency can deliver airport liability for airports that are owned or operated by governmental entities, as well as aircraft hull and liability policies. Coverage is available for both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft risks. Airport liability limits can be as much as $500 million. Aircraft liability limits range to $500 million. Primary premises general liability limits or products and completed operations GL limits each range to $300 million.

MINIMUM PREMIUM: Varies by risk, but usually at least $5,000.

TARGET: All kinds of aviation insurance exposures.

COVERAGE TERRITORY: All states, and international risks are considered on a case-by-case basis.
