Senate GOP Leaders Release ACA Repeal and Replace Bill

Earlier today, the U.S. Senate Republican leadership began releasing details of their Affordable Care Act (ACA) repeal and replace bill to rank-and-file senators.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) said he would like the Senate to vote on the legislation before Congress adjourns for the July 4 recess.

While details are still trickling out as of press time, the legislation would be somewhat similar to the repeal and replace legislation that the U.S. House of Representatives passed earlier this year. Like the House bill, the Senate bill would roll back the ACA’s Medicaid expansion and most of the ACA’s taxes. It would also delay the ‘Cadillac’ tax until 2026, and it would not cap the employer exclusion. The legislation would also get rid of the individual and employer mandate penalties. In a key change from the House bill, the Senate bill would use income rather than age as the basis for tax credits used to purchase health care.
