Nationwide is bringing all of its brands—including its independent agent companies—under one roof.

As part of the transition announced this week, Nationwide will change its logo—moving from the existing blue frame logo to an updated version of the Nationwide N and Eagle logo—over the next 18 months. It will continue to use the “Nationwide is on your side” tagline.

Nationwide is consolidating its multiple brands (including Allied, Harleysville and Scottsdale, among others) because “customers in many areas aren’t aware of our strength, offerings and size because we feature so many brands that can appear to be unrelated,” says Steve Rasmussen, chief executive officer of Nationwide.

According to information distributed by Allied to its independent agency force this week, independent agents will transition to the Nationwide brand in 2015. While independent agents can refer to their affiliation with Nationwide at any time, they “do not have to change anything right now.” In a letter to Allied agents earlier this summer, the company said will not “price shop the companies under the Nationwide umbrella against each other” as one of its “guiding principles” for both commercial and personal lines.

While the carrier’s brand name is changing, the names of the legal entities that provide the insurance, banking and financial services products will not change at this point, meaning agents don’t need to re-write customers under the Nationwide brand.

Nationwide says it has received a positive response to the N and Eagle as a visual element in its current “Join the Nation” campaign. “Feedback has revealed that this memorable feature still resonates with members, agents, producers and the general public,” Rasmussen says.

The carrier will unveil the new brand mark tonight in its NFL advertising, which will feature Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
