Beginning early next year, former Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Michael F. Consedine will serve as the next CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Consedine is currently Aegon senior vice president and global head of government and policy affairs.

“The Big ‘I’ congratulates Michael Consedine in his new role and looks forward to continuing to work with him and the NAIC to protect and improve the state-based system of insurance regulation,” says Bob Rusbuldt, Big “I” president & CEO. “Mike’s tremendous energy, proven leadership and industry knowledge are a great foundation for the next chapter of the NAIC.”

Consedine will head the NAIC’s Washington, D.C. office with primary responsibility over state and federal government affairs and international activities. His responsibility will be outreach to federal and international policymakers, state government associations and consumer and industry representatives.

From 2011 to 2015, Consedine served as Pennsylvania insurance commissioner. From 2013 to 2015, he served as an elected NAIC officer in numerous leadership roles, including president-elect, vice president and secretary-treasurer. During his tenure, he also served on a number of committees, including the International Insurance Relations Committee as chair, the Reinsurance Task Force and the Health Care Reform Alternatives Working Group.

Prior to his current role at Aegon, Consedine was the NAIC’s representative to the EU–U.S. Insurance Dialogue Steering Committee and served on the executive committee for the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.
