Agency Nation Meets: Cassie Masone

Get to know the individuals that ignite the insurance industry as they answer our icebreaker questions.

Cassie Masone is the vice president of Selective Insurance Company of America’s flood insurance operation. She has been in this role for over 14 years and is responsible for the flood line of business, including underwriting, claims, customer support and external sales.

Prior to managing the flood operation, Cassie held several key roles at Selective for an additional 12 years. She holds an MBA with concentrations in finance and marketing and a bachelor’s degree in finance.

Selective has participated in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Write Your Own (WYO) program since 1984 and has partnered with the Big “I” since 2001 to offer independent agents a private flood option for their clients.

Great to meet you, Cassie! What phrase or cliché do you most live by?

It’s always an adventure.

You’re not wrong. So, what is your dream vacation?

Going on a safari and experiencing the wildlife in person, especially elephants and lions.

That would be an adventure. If money were no object, what are the first three things you would buy?

A black convertible Maserati, an oceanfront house on Long Beach Island and a house on the slopes in Vail, Colorado.

Seems like you’ve already thought this through. If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A bowl of ziti with bolognese sauce and a big glass of cabernet.

Possibly one of the best answers to that question. What’s one productivity tool you couldn’t live without?

Sticky notes. They are my tool for keeping track of my to-do items, and because they are small, I can carry them in my pocket.

Other pocket-sized notetaking devices pale in comparison. If you could travel back in time to see a band play live, who would it be and why?

I would like to have experienced Woodstock. It was such an iconic event where one could experience and listen to so many unbelievable musicians while being part of something that changed the world. I truly wish I was a part of it.

Peace and love. Not a bad philosophy, was it? Which sports teams do you support and why?

The New York Yankees because I have to. My husband is the biggest fan ever.

Partner with the Big “i” to offer flood insurance.

No choice. You’re not alone there. Do you have any tattoos?

No, I do not, but I have always wanted to get a four-leaf clover. I still have time to make this happen.

We can help with that … Do you have any fears or phobias?

I am petrified by ants. If I see one in the house, I call the exterminator the next day. The exterminators really like me because they make a ton of money.

What is your favorite season and why?

Winter, especially when there is a gentle snowfall. It is so peaceful and quiet.

And no ants! Who has had the biggest influence on your professional career?

My father. He worked to support his family as a child, put himself through college, became a door-to-door salesman for an insurance company and retired from that same insurance company as a regional vice president at the age of 55. He taught me everything, especially how working hard pays off.

It certainly does. Who was your first celebrity crush?

David Cassidy from the Partridge Family. He was so cute. LOL.

Yes, LOL. Last of all, what one piece of advice would you give to your great-grandchildren?

Work hard but remember to laugh … a lot.

Thanks, Cassie!
