PRODUCT: Brewery PAK Insurance Program.

COMPANIES: PAK Programs, Great American Insurance.

BEST RATING: A+

AVAILABILITY: Available on an open brokerage basis.

FOCUS: Brewpubs and gastropubs focused on hospitality and food services now have access to Brewery PAK's entire suite of coverages and policies designed to support owners and operators as they navigate a variety of risks. Previously, coverage was limited to breweries, brewpubs and gastropubs that made the majority of their profits from selling beer.

“During the pandemic, many brewpubs and gastropubs shifted to a more well-rounded focus with a wider range of offerings, including food and hospitality services," said Paul Martinez, program manager for Brewery PAK. “With the expansion of Brewery PAK, we can now work with these business owners to provide them with the essential protection they need as they look to expand their operations and continue to grow."

Brewery PAK is a specialized insurance program providing coverage for breweries offering a comprehensive suite of coverages, including general liability, pollution liability, liquor liability, cyber risk, commercial auto, excess liability, employment practices liability and more. PAK programs have been insuring craft beverage manufacturers since 1997.

COVERAGE DETAILS: Coverage includes finished goods and beer aging in barrels that are valued at selling price. On- and off-premises events are covered. The policy also includes a blanket additional insured and waiver of subrogation.

In addition to claims support, brewpubs and gastropubs with brewing operations on premises will now have access to PAK Programs' risk management services, including iRAD technology, which uses risk assessment drones to provide policyholders with comprehensive risk profiles. Policyholders are also provided with in-depth property inspections.

UNDERWRITING: ACORD forms, Brewery PAK Supplement for each location, occupancy for each location, loss runs and details of any claims are required to quote. Details on the breakdown of sales will be required, such as the wholesale distribution of bottles, cans and kegs, and on-premises beer and food consumption at the tap room. If the client is a new business, additional details will be required.

Distilling operations that are housed within the brewpub will not be considered. A lack of internal controls, such as server training, may also disqualify an insured from coverage.

TARGET: Breweries, tap rooms, gastropubs and brewpubs with brewing operations on the premises of all sizes.

COVERAGE AVAILABILITY: The program is currently available in 42 states.
