Westfield Adds Inland Flood Coverage Endorsement

PRODUCT: Inland Flood Coverage Endorsement.
COMPANIES: Westfield Insurance.
BEST RATING: A
AVAILABILITY: Appointed agents and brokers only.
FOCUS: Westfield, a global property & casualty insurance company, is addressing growing flood risks by expanding its protection options for U.S. homeowners through offering an inland flood coverage endorsement designed to help reduce the insurance gap for those living outside historical high-risk flood zones.
Developed in collaboration with a global reinsurance company, this affordable coverage helps homeowners recover from flash floods, which are increasingly impacting areas previously considered low risk. In 2023, more than 40% of flood insurance claims came from outside high-risk flood areas, according to FEMA.
“With increasingly unpredictable weather patterns, flooding is no longer confined to FEMA-designated high-risk areas,” said Steve Butler, assistant vice president, personal lines product management and underwriting, Westfield. “This coverage can enable homeowners’ peace of mind and financial stability in the face of evolving flood risks.”
COVERAGE DETAILS: The inland flood coverage provides coverage for damage to a home from flood waters or surface waters, subject to a deductible. Coverage is also included for personal property and debris removal. Additionally, coverage is provided for basement personal property, as well as additional living expenses and fair rental value, subject to sublimits.
Limits are available up to $50,000 for WesPak and homeowner policies and up to $100,000 for WesPak Estate and EstatePak.
UNDERWRITING: The location of the home and the loss history of the home are considered in pricing and underwriting. Higher risk areas may not be eligible for coverage. The coverage is quoted as an endorsement to Westfield’s standard homeowners policy.
COVERAGE AVAILABILITY: Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and West Virginia.
TARGET: Homeowners in low- to moderate-risk flood zones.
