“Cyberattacks on commercial vehicles are a real and growing threat,” said Eric Hendricksen, commercial cyber practice lead for HSB, part of Munich Re Group. “With millions of connected commercial cars and trucks on the road, cybercriminals could hack into apps and automobile connections. Business owners need to get ahead of this emerging risk to data security, operations and vehicle safety.”

COVERAGE DETAILS: HSB Commercial Cyber for Auto provides protections that address the most critical cyber risks facing connected commercial fleets, including:

  • Auto cyberattack. Helps cover the cost of damage to the vehicle’s systems, devices or data from a malware attack.
  • Transportation costs and loss of use. Towing costs to transport the vehicle to a repair facility; rental costs for an alternate vehicle with similar equipment or alternate equipment or devices similar to those installed on the original vehicle; labor costs to install and utilize the alternate equipment or device.
  • Betterment coverage. Improvements to hardware or software as recommended to prevent a similar cyber event.
  • Business income loss and extra expense. When a cyberattack or extortion event disrupts vehicle-dependent operations, this coverage component helps businesses stay financially stable during downtime.
  • Auto cyber extortion. Responds to a demand for money, cryptocurrency or other consideration based on a credible threat to damage, disable, deny access to or disseminate content from a policyholder’s covered fleet.
  • Identity recovery coverage. Provides identity recovery case manager services and pays identity recovery expenses for identity theft of an executive or current full-time employee.

UNDERWRITING: Companies partnering with HSB to offer coverage retain full underwriting authority for limits up to $250,000. A questionnaire is required for limits of $500,000 or $1,000,000, which are reviewed by HSB.

TARGET: Commercial Cyber for Auto is designed for small to midsize businesses with connected commercial vehicles that are vulnerable to cyber threats, as well as businesses in industries where vehicle downtime directly interrupts operations, such as service trades, delivery, contractors and mobile technicians.

COVERAGE AVAILABILITY: All U.S. states.
