As the nation grapples with the rapidly changing coronavirus pandemic, business groups and lawmakers are seeking economic solutions and relief for businesses and individuals. The Big “I” is working around the clock for members—with Congress, the administration, state insurance departments and legislators, insurance companies, business associations and others.

Over the last week, we have been involved in intense discussions with insurance groups such as the American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA), the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) and the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA), as well as many individual carriers.

The Big “I” is also collaborating with other business trade groups such as the National Restaurant Association, the National Retail Federation, the International Franchise Association, the International Council of Shopping Centers, the Real Estate Roundtable and others on plans to assist the commercial lines clients of Big “I” members and advocate for independent agents and brokers. Those discussions are continuing as businesses are in desperate need of relief in the Phase III or Phase IV COVID-19 legislation currently being crafted on Capitol Hill. The goal of the Big “I” is to ensure the fundamental premise of insurance is not undermined while providing relief for businesses that are hurting badly from government mandated shutdowns.
