New Private Flood Option From Titan and Nationwide

PRODUCT: Titan Flood.

COMPANIES: Titan Flood, backed by K2 Insurance, a Warburg Pincus portfolio company, written on Nationwide excess & surplus paper.

BEST RATING: A

AVAILABILITY: Appointed agents and brokers only.

FOCUS: Titan Flood is a private residential flood-only program designed for the retail market, allowing agents and brokers to quote and bind flood insurance online in seconds.

“Over the past five years, the average flood claim has exceeded $90,000,” said Stephanie Lee, chief executive officer at Titan Flood. “We’re making it easier for people to protect themselves from that kind of financial shock.”

With nearly 96% of U.S. households currently lacking flood insurance, according to floodsmart.gov, the product aims to close a major protection gap by offering an alternative to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

“This program is about empowering homeowners with the right coverages for their needs and faster access,” said Brooke Shirazi, vice president of E&S and specialty property programs at Nationwide. “We wanted to take a controlled approach to entering the private flood market and found that Titan Flood’s digital efficiency and prioritizing underwriting discipline is making that possible.”

COVERAGE DETAILS: Titan Flood provides private residential flood-only coverage for buildings and personal property, giving homeowners a focused solution for flood risks that aren’t typically covered under standard homeowners or renters policies.

It offers higher available limits than the NFIP, up to $1.2 million for the building, designed to better match today’s home values. It also offers broader coverage options, including loss of use and replacement cost for contents.

UNDERWRITING: Titan Flood uses predictive modeling and algorithmic underwriting, incorporating more than 50 risk characteristics—including property-level attributes and climate-related factors—to deliver granular pricing and risk selection for each location.

Agents can enter a small set of data points on the Titan Flood platform, receive a quote in seconds, customize limits and options, and bind coverage online with a typical five-day waiting period and no waiting period at loan closing. Minimum premium levels and specific rate factors vary by state and risk profile.

TARGET: Homeowners who need private residential flood insurance, including those who want higher limits, more flexible coverage or a faster experience than NFIP typically provides. Ideal clients include homeowners in areas with meaningful flood exposure, whether they sit in a designated high-risk flood zone or not.

COVERAGE AVAILABILITY: Titan Flood is available in 15 states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.
