Agency Nation Meets: Jamie Behymer

By Agency Nation

Get to know the individuals that ignite the insurance industry as they answer our icebreaker questions.

Jamie Behymer, director of diversity, inclusion and young agents at the Big “I,” leads initiatives that empower emerging leaders and help independent insurance agencies become more inclusive. She works closely with the Big “I” Diversity Council and the Big “I” national Young Agents Committee (YAC) to equip agents with tools for long-term success, all while championing inclusive leadership and sustainable growth. Outside of work, she’s equally passionate about crafting, reading and spending time with her newly adopted West Highland white terrier (westie), Juniper.

Thanks for joining us, Jamie! If you had to do karaoke, what song would you sing?

“All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault).”

A 10-minute song is a serious power move. If you had to enter a talent show, what would your performance be?

I can play the flute while hula-hooping with water-filled hoops. I’ve performed in a few competitions—never won, but always made it to the finals.

Last Month’s most-read

We knew you were talented, but holy moly! Which fictional character do you relate to the most?

Leslie Knope from “Parks and Recreation.” The national YAC jokes that I’m her in real life, and I love the comparison. She’s passionate, optimistic, hardworking and detail-oriented—a true compliment.

We can see the resemblance. Who has had the biggest influence on your professional career?

My dad. He was in the insurance industry for 45 years. We even spent 10 months working together before he passed away. He introduced me to the industry, and I’m proud to carry on his legacy.

Do you have any fears or phobias?

I don’t like bugs. I live in North Dakota because there are basically no bugs for six months of the year.

What’s one thing you can’t say no to?

Ice cream. No matter the time, place, or temperature outside, I will always say yes.

Do you have any pets?

I actually just adopted a dog in September! Juniper is a three-year-old westie. When I was six years old, I got a stuffed animal westie for Christmas, and I’ve wanted my own real one ever since.

What do you do to unwind after a long day at work?

I take a nap on the couch. My day ends before my partner’s, so I take an hour to curl up with Juniper, rest and then wake up to make dinner.

What is your favorite season and why?

Fall. I grew up in Arizona and spent 18 summers there. I love the crisp fall air and the Leaves candle at Bath & Body Works, which is only available in the fall.

What three items are always in your handbag?

My Summer Fridays Cherry Lip Butter Balm, a ballpoint pen and my car keys. The keys always have the remote start fob so I can cool my car in the summer or warm it up in the winter.

What superpower do you wish you had?

I’d be a fly on the wall. It combines shapeshifting, flying and quick transportation all in one.

What is something you’re looking forward to?

My partner and I got engaged this fall! We’re planning our wedding for October 2026. I’m excited for our future together.

What one piece of advice would you give your great-grandchildren?

Always approach life with curiosity and kindness. You’ll learn more than you imagine and leave a positive mark on the world.

Well thanks for joining us and leaving a positive mark, too, Jamie!
