Rep. Joe Kennedy III (D-Massachusetts) will address the Young Agents & InsurPac State Chairpersons Legislative Luncheon at the annual Big “I” Legislative Conference.
The event will take place on Wednesday, May 3 at noon in Washington, D.C., and will also feature presentation of the annual InsurPac National Championship awards, InsurPac Young Agent of the Year and Eagle awards.
“The Big ‘I’ is honored that Rep. Kennedy, a member of the influential House Energy and Commerce Committee, will be addressing our members just as they embark on our annual pilgrimage to Capitol Hill,” says Charles E. Symington, Jr., Big “I” senior vice president for external and government affairs. “Rep. Kennedy is a rising star in the Democrat Party. We look forward to hearing his perspective on key issues as our agents prepare to meet with their federal representatives.”
Rep. Kennedy represents Massachusetts’ 4th Congressional District, which spans from the Boston suburbs to the industrial cities of Massachusetts’s southern coast. In his third term in Congress, he serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and is particularly active on health care issues.
“Rep. Kennedy is at the forefront of many health care policy discussions in the House, and he was a cosponsor of the ‘Cadillac’ tax repeal bill during the 114th Congress,” says Jen McPhillips, Big “I” vice president for federal government affairs. “He understands that taxes and health care are critical issues to our small business members and consumers in Massachusetts and across the country.”
Prior to being elected to Congress, Rep. Kennedy served as Massachusetts Assistant District Attorney in both the Middlesex County and Cape and Island’s district attorneys’ offices. He also served in the Peace Corps. Rep. Kennedy earned a bachelor’s degree in management science and engineering from Stanford University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
The Big “I” Legislative Conference is the insurance industry’s best-attended, most effective legislative meeting. This year’s event will take place May 3-5 at the Renaissance Washington, D.C. Downtown Hotel.
The legislative conference is an opportunity for Big “I” members to discuss important issues with their congressional representatives. Top issues this year include the NFIP, health care, tax reform, insurance regulatory reform, the Federal Crop Insurance Program and other relevant topics facing independent insurance agents and their clients.
