On Nov.1, Joe Rossi, CEO and president of Joe Flood Insurance Brokerage in Carver, Massachusetts, and chairman of the Big “I" Flood Insurance Subcommittee, was appointed chair of the Flood Insurance Producers National Committee (FIPNC), where he will represent the Big “I" and other producer groups.

The FIPNC works closely with FEMA to provide expertise on flood insurance product design and development, insight on marketing and servicing the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and guidance on the overall operation of the NFIP. FIPNC also provides professional advice and counsel on issues related to insurance agents' involvement in the NFIP and flood insurance.

FIPNC represents tens of thousands of insurance agents, brokers, and their employees, as well as the millions of policyholders served by the NFIP, and the communities in which they live and work. They focus their efforts on the profitable growth and development of the NFIP on an actuarially sound basis to stand as a premier model of the benefits of combining the efforts of government, businesses, and individuals.

“In leading this esteemed committee and representing the IIABA, my goal is to work with not only FEMA, but other organizations to tackle the issues that impact insurance agents and how they write flood insurance," Rossi said. “I also want to make sure that the goals of our fellow producer groups are met over the next two years so that the nation's agent community is well represented."

FIPNC was formed by the Federal Insurance Administrator in 1982 to assist with improving and expanding the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), its book of business, and the communities participating in the NFIP. It is intended to be a direct and honest communication channel for the NFIP, as well as provide real marketplace and program operational experiences about the NFIP.

The Big “I" will continue to advocate for independent insurance agents and provide updates through the News & Views e-newsletter.

Raaed Haddad is Big “I" director of federal government affairs.
