How to Make Your Agency Attractive to Millennials

By: Victoria Goebel

By 2020, more than 400,000 insurance jobs will open up, according to The Institutes.

That means in just four years, insurance agencies and companies will have many positions available to attract the next generation of employees. Does your agency have a plan to fill this looming talent gap?

Recruiting the next generation is essential for your agency to not only survive, but thrive in the years ahead. That much is obvious—but how do you go about recruiting your next generation of leaders?

InVEST® and the Insurance Careers Movement offer a few tips for hiring the best and brightest young talent:

Get involved. Get out in your community. Engage with other professionals and industry leaders. Insurance is a people-centric industry, which makes it crucial for your agency to engage with the local community. Plus, research shows that millennials want a vibrant office culture where employees are engaged and active with both the surrounding community and the industry as a whole. Getting involved will boost your organization’s overall morale while helping attract bright new minds.

Keep up. It pays to be up to date on technology trends. This step is not only important to your business operations, but essential in convincing potential recruits that they should join your team. Adapting to new technology trends and embracing the digital age will attract future leaders and level the playing field between you and your competition—and perhaps even catapult you past it.

Show and tell. Studies show millennials would rather help people than take a higher-paying job. Show them they can have it all by working with you. Insurance is a job where employees can become a system of support and protection during clients’ most difficult moments. Highlighting this important truth is critical in your recruiting efforts.
