RPS Launches General Liability Program for Contractors

FOCUS: Recently, excess & surplus wholesale broker and managing general agency Risk Placement Services (RPS) announced the launch of its new RPS Contractor’s Select Program, offering general liability coverage for general contractors and artisan and trade contractors with sales up to $5 million.

RPS has over 25 years of underwriting experience with significant expertise in the contractors space. The product provides proper coverage to meet contractual requirements. Loss control measures and premium financing are available to each insured.

“The demand for general liability for contractors is high, driven by increasing risks in the industry and regulatory requirements,” says Steve Sanchez, senior vice president of construction programs, RPS. “RPS Contractor’s Select will provide contractors with the confidence to focus on their work without constantly worrying about the financial risks associated with accidents and lawsuits.”

COVERAGE DETAILS: The program offers a $1 million per occurrence, $2 million general aggregate and $2 million products-completed operations aggregate limit with a minimum deductible of $1,000. The program also provides a per-project aggregate up to $5 million. It includes blanket additional insured status for ongoing and completed operations. Primary noncontributory coverage and a waiver of subrogation are available.

UNDERWRITING: Submissions require a completed Acord 126 and a completed supplemental form, preferably the Contractor’s Select supplemental. Applicants must also provide a minimum of three years of updated loss runs valued within 90 days, though five years is preferred. A description of all losses over $5,000 and the target premium must be included. The rating basis is determined by payroll, subcontractor costs, including materials, and other applicable costs.

MINIMUM PREMIUM: Minimum premiums are $2,500 for general contractors and $3,000 for artisan or trade contractors.

TARGET: The program targets businesses with annual receipts of up to $5 million across 80 different class codes in the construction segment, including residential home builders and commercial builders. Other classes include, but are not limited to, plumbers, electricians, roofers, HVAC, janitorial services, sign installation contractors, alarm installation, interior and exterior carpentry, drywall contractors, painting contractors, chimney cleaning and repair, concrete construction, general contractors, excavation contractors, landscaping, metal and steel contractors and window cleaning.
