Travelers Offers New Product Liability Insurance for Life Sciences Companies

FOCUS: Recently, Travelers announced Travelers Synergy^SM, a new customizable product liability coverage tailored to life sciences companies. Coverage will help medical technology, pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and digital health companies with the costs of product-related claims.

COVERAGE DETAILS: Travelers Synergy includes products and completed operations liability coverage for damages due to bodily injury or property damage from a company’s products or services included in the products and completed operations hazard. In addition to this coverage for losses due to product- or service-related bodily injury or property damage, Travelers Synergy offers add-on coverages, including:

• Errors & omissions liability coverage. Protects against financial loss caused by errors, omissions or negligent acts in connection with the company’s products or work.
• Product recall expenses coverage. Provides reimbursement for certain product recall expenses directly attributable to a Class I recall of medical or biotechnology products.
• Clinical trial medical expenses coverage. Provides payment for medical expenses for bodily injury occurring during a clinical trial, regardless of fault.

Given the mergers & acquisitions activity in the life sciences industry, Travelers Synergy provides named insured status for newly acquired or formed entities up to 180 days, which is 90 days longer than most other coverages offered in the market. Travelers Synergy’s base form also comes without a built-in exclusion for unapproved products.

UNDERWRITING: Travelers underwrites exposures for each risk individually. Travelers Synergy does not require companies that are conducting clinical trials to individually schedule them on the policy. The form gives broad coverage for clinical trials.

COVERAGE AVAILABILITY: Travelers Synergy is currently available in all states except AK, CA, SD and VT, as well as some risks in MN.

TARGET: Coverage is designed for life sciences companies, including medical device, digital health and pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies. The coverage is a fit across a range of specialties, including manufacturers of brand name and generic drugs, biologics, biosimilars, pediatric drugs, cell and gene therapy solutions, and veterinary pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals. The product is designed to provide coverage for companies still in research and development as well as up to billions in commercial sales.
