How did you get started at your agency?
After beginning my career with a direct writer agency, I found myself constantly craving more flexibility and carrier options, like what I saw independent agents enjoying. Everywhere I went, I kept hearing about my current agency before meeting some of their team at an event and expressing an interest in joining them. From there, everything sort of fell into place, and since joining in August 2023, I’ve never looked back.
Why homeowners insurance?
It wasn’t a career path I saw coming, but now I can’t imagine doing anything else. What keeps me hooked is the ever-changing nature of the job, especially with today’s market. Every day brings a new challenge and a chance to learn and grow. It’s a field where there is always something new to learn and discover, and that’s what keeps me excited about the future.
Challenges in the homeowner’s insurance market?
Inflation isn’t sparing the housing market, pushing up prices for homes and everything within them. Couple that with the rising frequency and severity of storms, and insurance companies find themselves footing larger and more frequent claims. But the impact doesn’t end there. Consumers and agents alike feel the pressure, facing higher premiums and stricter eligibility requirements as a result.
Future trends?
We’re witnessing a steady rise in premiums and tightening eligibility criteria. This trend is likely to prompt consumers to become more proactive in understanding insurance and to be more discerning when selecting an agent, prioritizing expertise and service over just chasing the lowest price.
Advice for a fellow agent?
You are directly shaped by the world around you. Cultivate meaningful connections and seek out individuals who embody the life you aspire to lead. I owe much of my success to the support of friends, family, and mentors. Every handshake holds the potential to unlock new opportunities.
