Travelers Wedding Protection Now Includes Post-Wedding Brunch

FOCUS: Excluding the honeymoon, the average cost of a wedding is about $31,000, according to The Knot. That’s a lot of cash for couples to spend, considering the number of things that could go wrong.

To help manage the various costs associated with a wedding, Travelers expands its wedding insurance coverage to include brunch the day after the wedding. This post-wedding brunch program is in addition to coverage for the ceremony, reception, rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.

“Hosting a brunch the day after the wedding has become very popular,” explains Todd Shasha, managing director, personal insurance product management at Travelers. “Our expanded wedding coverage will help couples protect their entire wedding budget. This new coverage will help couples manage additional financial risks that come with holding another event potentially involving even more vendors or another venue.”

UNDERWRITING: Coverage includes the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception and post-wedding brunch. The policy also covers lost deposits if a vendor goes out of business, declares bankruptcy before an event or fails to show up; cancellation or postponement of the event; loss or damage of rented or purchased jewelry; damage to special attire like tuxedos or dresses; event photographs and videos if a photographer’s film is defective or photos are lost or damaged; damage to gifts; and additional expenses, including unexpected expenses to avoid a cancellation or postponement.

Optional coverage includes liability insurance for bodily injury, property damage and personal injuries to third parties at the event; and liquor liability insurance for alcohol-related accidents. Many venues now require liability coverage, which includes $1 million liability with property damage of $25,000, $250,000 or $1 million.

The policy does not cover change of heart. No deductible. Plans start at $160. Various levels of coverage are available depending on the dollar amount invested in the event.

MINIMUM PREMIUM: $160.

TARGET: Couples planning a wedding, as well as parents of couples.

COVERAGE TERRITORY: Brunch coverage is available in AL, CA, CO, DE, ID, IL, IN, MS, MT, NV, NM, ND, OH, RI, SC, TN, UT and WV. Overall wedding insurance is available in all 50 U.S. states except AK, HI and LA.
